MEET THE DOCTOR
Dr. Gina Tizio is a licensed Naturopathic Physician and the Chief Medical Officer of Affordable Mobile Doctor.
As a child, she loved reading. Her mother is a labor and delivery nurse and she found her mother’s book on medicine, pathology, pharmacology and surgery. She consumed these books and grew in her appetite for learning. At the age of nine, her great-grandmother, who was dying of lung cancer came to spend the last months of her life in their home. While Dr. Tizio’s mother was working at the hospital, the little girl Dr. Tizio took care of her great-grandmother, making her lunch and giving her morphine. As the years past, Dr. Tizio would go to the hospital with her mother and saw a great deal of babies being born. She new that someday she wanted to be a doctor. While in college, preparing for medical school, she meet medical students from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome while studying to take the medical school preparatory exam. These medical students performed acupuncture on her hand and prevented the need for surgery. Another door opened, and Dr. Tizio knew that Naturopathic Medicine was the kind of medicine that is needed in our sick world.
She obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with Minors in Business and Psychology from Arizona State University in 2001. Before entering medical school, she was employed by the Arthritis Research Team to study the effects of stress on chronic disease. She was also a committee chair for the Migrant Health and Education Program, elected officer of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society, elected officer of Fostering and Achieving Cultural Equity and Sensitivity in the Health Professions, and a respite volunteer for Hospice of Arizona.
Upon graduating from Arizona State University, she was offered a job with the Arthritis Research Team at ASU. She was a research clinician who assessed participants for arthritis with a clinical intake and a physical exam. She also worked at the The Phoenix VA Health Care System doing blood draws and processing on patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Dr. Tizio attended medical school at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. The Naturopathic medical program is comprised of basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, histology, pathology, immunology and embryology) and clinical sciences (obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, urology, endocrinology, pharmacology, psychiatry, counseling, cardiology, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology, neurology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, minor surgery, sports medicine, clinical and physical diagnosis and radiology). Naturopathic disciplines she studied include homeopathy, botanical medicine (herbs), hydrotherapy, nutrition, manipulation (like chiropractors), Naturopathic philosophy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Most importantly, she was overseen by experienced Naturopathic Physicians during more than 1000 clinical hours of training.
After passing licensing exams, she was granted a license to practice medicine by the Naturopathic Physicians Medical Board. She is proud to be a naturopathic physician. In the state of Arizona, she is considered a general family practice physician, and can use the protected titles of Naturopathic Doctor, Naturopathic Medical Doctor, or Naturopathic Physician.
While attending medical school, she devoted her time to understanding application of Lindlar’s Therapeutic Order using conventional and naturopathic modalities including pharmaceutical drugs, nutraceuticals, minor surgery, nutrition, nutrient IV therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, biolingustic kinesiology, mind-body medicine, counseling, low amplitude high velocity manipulation (like a chiropractor), physical therapy (exercise, cold laser, medical ultrasound, electrical stimulation), Eastern and Western Botanical Herbs. Her clinical studies at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center were focused on family medicine (including pediatrics and women’s medicine) and mental health. She has also treated survivors of abuse at the Sojourner Center and those recovering from drug and alcohol abuse at Pathways and Riversource. She graduated with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2009. After working in a refugee clinic, she realized how many people did not have health insurance and how expensive it was to see a doctor.
